Professor Sir Anthony Finkelstein is the President of City St George's, University of London, and a Professor of Software Systems Engineering. He is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He currently holds a range of advisory and board roles across HM government in areas principally related to security and technology. He is active in start-up and venture investment.

Anthony was Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security to HM Government, leading science, research and innovation across the UK's national security community. This followed an extensive academic career, including as Dean of UCL's Faculty of Engineering Sciences, Head of UCL Department of Computer Science, and as a Fellow of The Alan Turing Institute.

A civil service which is prepared for the future challenges facing the UK needs to see science, technology and innovation as the tool of first resort. The world is changing at a pace far faster than the normal structures and processes of Whitehall were built to manage, and a new approach is long overdue. I am delighted to be joining the Reimagining Whitehall Steering Group to support Re:State's work to make that transformation a reality.
