Cat Little CB, Chief Operating Officer, Civil Service and Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office

In conversation with Cat Little

A modern, high-performing civil service is the foundation on which public
services deliver. When Whitehall succeeds, so too do frontline services,
maximising outcomes for citizens and driving prosperity across the country, At
the same time, Government's five missions will require departments to
coordinate on some of the most complex challenges Britain faces - working
across organisational siloes and enabling innovation in other sectors to
achieve unusually ambitious goals.

While progress has been made in ensuring the Civil Service is fit for the future- including through the Evaluation Taskforce's leadership on evidence-based
policy and the Cabinet Office's work on Al adoption - there is further to go.
The Government's ambitious devolution agenda will require new capabilities
and ways of working, while the Civil Service will need to be exceptional in
preparing for future risks, from the environmental and social consequences of
climate change to cyberattack, in an increasingly unstable world.

ReformĀ is delighted to welcome Cat Little CB, Chief Operating Officer, Civil Service and Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, to discuss her reflections on Whitehall's reform journey to date.
