Reform was delighted to host a private roundtable event at the Labour Party Conference.
The construction industry is crucial to delivering the necessary development and regeneration needed for economic growth, including the Government’s ambitious new housing targets. However, realising the sector’s full potential is hampered by long running problems with attracting enough skilled workers. Apprenticeship numbers have been falling, and worker shortages risk undermining the Government’s infrastructure plans. Estimates suggest that there will be a need for more than 250,000 extra construction workers by 2028.
Without a strong, skilled construction workforce, economic growth will be harder to achieve, progress towards net zero will be slower and the quality of constructed buildings and infrastructure could be lower. Achieving Labour’s Industrial Strategy will require bold action to attract much needed recruits.
Re:State was delighted to be joined by Sarah Jones MP, Minister for Industry, for this event. Kindly supported by Chartered Institute of Building and Federation of Master Builders.
