Supercharging science: the future of clinical trials

The life sciences are integral to health outcomes and the wider UK economy:
providing a GDP boost worth over €90 billion a year, and promoting access
to the latest clinical treatments and health technologies to support healthier
lives. World-leading research institutes and the wealth of data accessible to
the NHS also means there is enormous potential for future growth. Yet
without prioritising clinical trials - to create the capacity needed for new
research and breakthroughs - we are unlikely to realise this potential.

For example, as the O'Shaughnessy Review made clear, we could be
conducting more clinicaltrials in the community, offering the double dividend
of more inclusive, cost-effective research. We should also ensure that the
NHS workforce have opportunities and training routes available, which align
with their everyday workflows, to conduct clinical trials. AII the while, the
health system must bring patients with it, recognising that their participation
is the bedrock of effective research.

Re:State is delighted to welcome Matt Westmore, Chief Executive, Health Research Authority, to lead this private roundtable to discuss how the UK can prioritise clinical trials, and embed its position as a world-leading centre of health and care research.

This private roundtable will be held in-person and will take place under the Chatham House rule.
