As public services continue to focus on clearing the backlogs built up during the Covid-19 pandemic, and return to service levels commensurate with public expectations, Whitehall has had a renewed focus to improving the productivity of those services.
In times of acute challenge, AI-powered software can significantly enhance the productivity of services looking to clear backlogs, improving frontline workers’ productivity by streamlining processes and prioritising cases for triage based on risk profiles. Experience shows that this requires complex work behind the scenes, but if these benefits can be harnessed across public services then they could deliver radically better service levels even after backlogs are reduced.
