The UK's life sciences industry is at the forefront of a competitive global market, as evidenced by the speed with which we discovered and deployed effective COVID-19 vaccines. From pioneering advancements in genomics and biotech, to revolutionising healthcare delivery systems, the UK's life sciences sector is a powerful tool for innovation and resilience. And, beyond its vital contribution to GDP, it also plays a key role in the nation's health.

The Government has long recognised the importance of this sector, publishing the 'Life Sciences Vision' in July 2021 – a strategy created in partnership industry directly. With four ambitious preconditions for success – making the NHS a better innovation  partner, more investment in science and research, better use of NHS data, and  improved access to capital – it was always likely to require significant spending and concerted focus.

Re:State was delighted to welcome George Freeman MP, former Minister for Science, Research and Innovation in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology; Lord O'Shaughnessy, Co-Founder and Senior Partner of Newmarket Strategy; Dame June Raine DBE, Chief Executive, Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency; and Stuart Carroll, Director of Market Access and Policy Affairs at Moderna to this panel to discuss the next steps for the Life Sciences Vision.
