The transition to Net Zero offers huge opportunities to boost economic growth, enhance the security and sustainability of our energy supply, and ultimately to protect our environment for future generations. As the Independent Review of Net Zero made clear, though, to deliver the “thriving, modern, green economy” of tomorrow – and the thousands of new jobs this will bring – we must invest strategically in the things that will enable consumers to make greener choices today and to ensure the transition delivers growth across the regions.
This means supporting rapidly growing areas of renewable generation, such as offshore wind, and making our homes and transport systems more energy efficient – all of which requires targeted, local action that builds trust and empowers consumers. It also means encouraging innovation to find the technological solutions of the future, with different regions leading the way in different technologies. Both will play a key role in creating high-skilled jobs in communities throughout the country and helping to level up.
Reform are delighted to be joined by Baroness Penn, Minister for Housing and Communities, Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, to explore how we can seize the opportunity of the Net Zero transition, and support the growth of green industries, in order to spread opportunity across the UK.
This roundtable will be held under the Chatham House rule and is kindly supported by PwC.
