Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP, Chair of the Public Accounts Committee

Making every pound count: the road to secure public finances

Spending public money effectively is fundamental to the impact government can achieve. Yet too often we do not apply key lessons from the past – for example, in managing projects well, capturing the full potential of data and technology and mitigating the risks involved in cross-cutting areas of public service delivery – to promote efficiency and improve outcomes. The Public Accounts Committee’s role in providing candid insight is absolutely vital in this regard, and, in “holding Government to account across all of its spending”.

In the context of Government’s five missions – which will involve experimental and high-risk projects – and against a tight fiscal backdrop, this scrutiny function will be all important.

Re:State is delighted to welcome Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP, Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, to lead this private, partners-only roundtable to discuss how government can best secure value for money on taxpayer’s behalf.

This private roundtable will be held under the Chatham House rule.
