The Chancellor's appearance at the Despatch Box on 3 March represents a critical juncture in the national response to COVID-19. With a fair headwind, as a nation we should be entering the pandemics endgame, with the most vulnerable portion of the population immunised under the Government's ambitious vaccine programme. For the Chancellor this will bring new questions and challenges. What support will the nation need throughout the long tail of the pandemic; what implications will the pandemic have had for financing the Government's wider priorities; and how will the Government both help drive growth and take steps to return to sound public finances?
