Few things are more important to the UK’s future than research and innovation. Whether addressing climate change, fuelling economic growth, pushing the frontier of AI or securing better health outcomes, research and innovation will be central to success.
With a budget of more than £8 billion, UKRI plays a major role in leading research and innovation in the UK: funding programmes, developing the skills of researchers, improving capabilities across the research system and engaging with communities to understand priorities. Given the significant pressures on public finances and the importance of research and innovation to the UK’s future this budget must be spent effectively.
