Our response to extra funding for women’s safety in London

Governing London

1 March 2022

Responding to the Mayor’s announcement of more funding to make venues and public spaces in London safer for women at night, Claire Harding, Research Director, Centre for London said:

“When night falls so does women’s confidence to go out. We change our behaviour to make ourselves feel safer. We might not go out to certain places, or we might not go out at all.

“This new funding is welcome and will support businesses to make venues and public spaces in the capital safer at night. But we also welcome the Mayor’s recognition that we must tackle the root of the problem: changing the behaviour of perpetrators of abuse and bringing them to justice.”
