Tessa Jowell MP has represented the London constituency of Dulwich and West Norwood since 1992. While a Member of Parliament, Tessa served on the opposition front bench until 1997 when she was appointed to the Government, becoming the first ever Minister for Public Health. She served as a Minister throughout the last Labour Government including time as a Minister for Health, Employment, London, Women, the Cabinet Office and as Paymaster General. As Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (2001-07) she pioneered London’s successful bid for the Olympic Games in 2012. Subsequent to stepping down as the Shadow Olympics Minister in 2012, Tessa was appointed to lead a global campaign to ensure an integrated approach to the early childhood years in the post Millennium Development Goals framework.
