Dr Jessica Winterson

Re:State Scholar

Jessica currently works on a programme to implement and evaluate a peer-support scheme in four prisons in the North of England. Prior to this she worked on a project to introduce peer-led initiatives in prison for people affected by gambling harm.

Jessica’s research focuses on prison peer-support work and prison regulation. Her interests include how peer-led schemes in prisons have developed since 1990, particularly in relation to suicide, self-harm and violence reduction strategies.

As a Reform Scholar, Jessica will write about the potential to include peer-support work in the criteria for the inspection and monitoring of prisons using human rights principles.
